Chief Executive - Food Storage and Distribution Federation - Berkshire

Chris Sturman, the current Federation CEO, has advised the FSDF Board that he has decided, after over eight years in office, to stand down during the summer of 2018. He will retire after a 50 year career in Freight transport, logistics and supply chain management, 35 years of which have been in the food sector – but not before having identified a replacement to be selected by the Board and ensured a smooth transition.

FSDF is the sole trade association which promotes and support the interests of the entire food and drink logistics industry and member companies engaged in food logistics across all market sectors. Retail, wholesale, food service, manufacturing and logistics service suppliers come together with a common interest - The Federation which helps feed the Nation!  

 The role of Chief Executive is very hands on, is an amalgam of lobbying and political skills, dealing with Government and Civil Servants at national and local level, and a sound knowledge of the food logistics sector, and its many facets, including liaison with the other trade bodies active in the sector.  It also includes the responsibility of Company Secretary to ensure sound Corporate Governance, Board and Committee management and discipline and the leadership of a small and dedicated administrative team.  Key to success in the role, is the trust and open communicative style between CEO and Federation President, along with the maintenance of good communication and cooperation with the Board, the members of which represent the wide range of member companies, by size and activity.     

With its own offices located close to Reading, Berkshire, the role requires significant travel within the UK, visits to FSDF members in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, and to affiliate organisations in Europe and USA, from time to time.  Meetings, seminars and conferences are held across the UK, along with social and networking events to enable full and associate members to get together. 

Letters of Application with CVs are now sought from interested candidates, with initial interviews undertaken in October. It is planned that a Board selection panel, chaired by the FSDF President, will convene to make a decision by the year end, and enable the successful candidate to attend the FSDF Board Away Day and Board meeting in the third week in January 2018.  It is hoped that the new CEO will join the Federation on or around 1st April, and with a three months handover and acclimatisation, take full control in July 2018. This programme may flex to suit circumstances.
