Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your place(s)
Brexit presents a huge and unprecedented challenge for UK trade associations and their members.
This one-day workshop will offer a roadmap for negotiating those challenges successfully, showing how trade associations can offer real value to their members at a time of great uncertainty by lobbying both the UK Government and the EU to defend and promote their interests.
The workshop will offer a practical guide to lobbying the Department for Exiting the European Union, other UK Government Departments and the EU to ensure that the interests of affected sectors are understood by those who are responsible for the Brexit negotiations. It will offer advice on how to make sure that the voice of UK trade associations continues to be heard in the European Commission, the European Parliament and the 27 other Member States, as well as practical guidance on the different roles played in the new environment by UK trade associations and pan European and other national trade associations. By the end of the workshop participants will be confident that they have the knowledge and expertise to lobby on Brexit issues effectively and professionally.
The trainer, Michael Burrell, is currently advising trade associations on Brexit, building on his long experience of advising associations, companies and others on how to lobby both the European Union and the UK Government. He also regularly runs training courses, drawing on case studies from his own career to bring to life the general principles of good lobbying. Clients that he has advised or trained include the Airport Operators Association, Airlines UK, Toy Industries of Europe, the Bar Council, Microsoft, Pfizer, Samsung, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and diplomats from six countries in the western Balkans. Michael is Director of the European Centre for Public Affairs (www.theecpa.eu), a Brussels-based think tank focused on best practice, training and skills development in public affairs. Prior to his public affairs career, where he worked at both Edelman and APCO Worldwide, he was a political journalist, reporting on both EU and UK politics.
